* Sideboard 011. A very unique piece from the American "Aesthetic Movement" period. A short style period occuring at the end of the 19th century, supplanting the Art Nouveau excesses with a variety of the world's regional styles, notably Japanese, and finally refining all this into the simple, honest craftsmanship we now call "Arts and Crafts." Here in this pre-Arts and Crafts example we have remnants of art nouveau seen in the original brasses and carving details, the curvilinear top and interesting pseudo-cabriole pilasters. Here we see the beginning ideas of using all quarter sawn solid oak and the simplicity of straight lines so typical of the Arts and Crafts movement. In this Aesthetic Movement sideboard we have two top flatware drawers, one wide drawer for linens and a cupboard for large serving pieces. American made, c.1890. 56in wide X 36in high X 24in deep.

Now in Dallas, he is concentrating on turn-of- the-century American and Texas furniture; not a place to find gilded continental things, but an interesting source for usable American, English, and French primitives. Come see.
